A look at the new Sketchy Setups ebooks

Let's try to get this Sketchy Setups thing back on track.

Revised launch date for the new Sketchy Setups is June 12th. Just a few days. So, with this in mind, I’d like to talk a little more about these three new guides.

Series 1 guides (Strat, Tele, Gibson, P and J Bass) were super-focussed and to-the-point. That’s what I wanted—the easiest way to a great setup.

These three new guides have to cover more ground. There’s a broader range of instruments that they apply to for a start. And, those instruments all bring their own quirks and complications so I’ve got some extra explaining to do.

All of the Series 2 guides are at least 50% longer/more-crammed than the earlier guides.

Let’s have a look at them.

#5. Fender Offset Guitars

We’re talking about four main guitars here. The Jazzmaster and Jaguar share a common tremolo system but they’re still quite different guitars and each has its own challenges. The Mustang and its pal, the Jag-Stang have a completely different trem and this introduces some more complications.

These guitars are hard. They’re demanding to set up because getting a good result sometimes requires going beyond the regular setup steps and delving deeper into the murky world of neck-shimming. That's not always necessary, but when it is, we'll be prepared.

#6. Locking Tremolo Guitars

Anyone who’s set up a locking trem has an appreciation of the patience required. This guide doesn’t (quite) look at a particular instrument. Rather, it looks at any guitar that’s fitted with a locking tremolo system.

I’ve worked to explain the setup of the original Floyd Rose trem as the principles here are broadly applicable. However, I've also looked at the (often confusing) variants of the Ibanez Edge systems. And, I couldn’t forget the Kahler.

These things are fiddly but they’re not as complicated as they appear at first. With the right instructions, they’re straightforward and I think I’ve got the right instructions for you.

#7. Acoustic Guitars

Acoustic guitars bring a whole different set of complications to the table. Because they can lack the easy adjustability of most electric guitars, an acoustic setup is more like a series of not-easily-reversible modifications.

But, I’ve got some tricks to make this less scary. We'll walk through step by step and you’ll soon be setting up your acoustic with confidence.

Acoustic undersaddle pickups get some attention here too. Again, there are no ‘easy’ adjustments for them but it’s still possible to set them up for great output and balance.

So, come Friday (June 12th), these all new Sketchy Setups ebooks will be added to the range. Seven guides in all. I’m pretty proud of this. 🙂

Over the next few days, I'll be announcing pricing and details of how the launch will roll out. Stay tuned.

If you’re reading this from the future (after June 12th, 2020), you can just buy Sketchy Setups guitar setup guides without waiting. What an amazing place the future must be.
